Community Involvement
Being involved in the community in Downers Grove is one of my favorite things to do...it began as something I could do for others but what I get personally is such a gift...helping others and being aware of their needs helps bring me such gratitude for all the blessings I have.
My family and I live in this town and are actively involved in many organizations. FISH is a community service organization we have in Downers Grove serving the needs of our citizens and surrounding communities. I am a phone volunteer once a month where I assist with people inquiring about receiving/donating , needing financial assistance, or setting up transportation for those needing rides. Also, I am on the drivers list to help take people without the ability to drive to doctor appointments and such. And we can always use more people so if you would like to volunteer, just touch base with me!
Almost every Wednesday you can find me at the Providence Nursing home near Good Samaritan Hospital, formally Rest Haven. I am part of a special eucharistic ministry group with St. Joseph Church in Downers. At 10 am every Wedsnesday, the we have a small religious service including praying the rosary with the seniors...I usually first work the halls and bring communion to those who cannot come to the service either because they are physically unable or are in therapy during that time. I find them wherever they are even if it takes me a while and they always say it makes their day...mine too.
Personal Background
"Selling real estate? You will be eaten alive!"...words of my father's when I told him my plan to enter real estate! Flash forward to now where he says he can't believe how good I am at my job and my successes...even in a recession! But let me tell you my journey...
I was not born a salesperson...My undergraduate degree is actually in special education. Since I graduated from NIU, I had been teaching at McClure Jr. High in Western Springs when I found out I was pregnant with my first daughter. I had even found time before she was born to go to complete my master's degree in mathematics as well. However, I always knew I wanted to be at home with my children as much as possible so it was at that time that I quit teaching and actually began to tutor on the side. During my free time my husband and I would begin to learn about investing in real estate and eventually had a goal to buy our first property...
I began looking actually working with a Coldwell Banker agent but kept finding all the "good" deals where being swept up fast either by the agents themselves or sold before actually processing. This is when I decide to get my license in 2001...strictly to help us buy was the plan.
Coming from a huge family and tons of great friends I immediately began thinking I could do a sale or two each year and help them...make the process easier for them and make a few dollars as well. And here I am! Years and many succesful transactions later I never left the industry! People often ask me why I don't go back to teaching..and I really do miss the children for sure! But the career of real estate is now a part of me and I love helping others...I see myself as an educator in the processing of buying and selling homes. People do not need you to convince them to buy or sell...they know they want to...they just need me to be the expert about the market, the process, and help them create this part of their future. And I appreciate their trust!
